Corfe Castle, Dorset

The castle is located on the site where Edward the Martyr was murdered by his stepmother in 978. Edward the II was incarcerated here in 1326. Defended by Lady Bankes the castle was unsuccessfully besieged by the parliamentarians in 1643 but dismantled by them in 1646.
