There are two nuclear power stations at Sizewell. Sizewell A started generation in 1966. It consists of two 1000 MWt Magnox reactors, producing a total output of 420 MWe. The power station is due to start decommissioning in 2007. The Sizewell B nuclear reactor is UK's only large pressurised water reactor (PWR), producing 1188 MWe. It was built between 1988 and 1995. Like all power station it uses a source of heat to create steam. Bundles of enriched uranium act as an extremely high-energy source of heat via a process known as nuclear fission, the heated water turns to steam which drives a turbine, which spins a generator to produce power. The reactor is shielded in concrete and steel to prevent radiation leakage.
