A monument by Gerard Johnson was erected by the Shakespeare family in 1623 on the north wall of the Chancel.
In addition to the Corporation in Stratford there was a separate Church Court under the Bishop. This court investigated failure to attend Church, the maintenance of the Church, sorcery, libel, drunkenness, sexual offences, the licensing of Physicians, Surgeons and Schoolmasters and the making of wills. For two out of every three years it was the Vicar of Stratford, not the Bishop, that presided over this Court.
