Poem about Matthew Hopkins, the English witch-finder whose career flourished in the time of the English Civil War. He claimed to hold, the office of "Witch-finder General" given to him by the Puritan Parliament. The end of the poem refers to the legend that Hokins was himself accused of witchcraft and made to undergo his own swimming test. He died in 1647.
