The churches in Marston Moretaine and the neighbouring village of Elstow are unusual in that they have towers separate from the main church building. Legend says when the towers were built they were joined to the church, but the Devil tried to show his strength by stealing them. He failed in this but managed to push the tower away from the church so he would retain a vantage point to watch all the wicked activities of the local people
