Dunstable was founded by King Henry I and given a charter to hold a market. The town built up around two buildings King Henry's Royal Palace in the area known as Kingsbury and the Priory. Henry was born, September 1068
at Selby, Yorkshire West Riding. He became King of England and Duke of Normandy. He died on 1st December 1135
at St. Denis-le-Fermont, Gisors, Normandy. Henry was the youngest son of William the Conqueror and his only child born in England.
