The building in Henley Street now known as 'Shakespeare's Birthplace' was, at the time of Shakespeare's birth, two adjacent houses which were bought by Shakespeare's father at two different times, probably in 1556 and 1575, although he is thought to have been a tenant of at least one part from 1552.
