In the late 1950's and 1960's the space race and improved knowledge about the universe raised the possibilty of life on other planets and space travel. During this era people first ventured into space and then in 1969 landed on the Moon. There was also speculation about secret development of spacecraft and military tests at various Airforce bases. These became known as 'conspiracy theories'.
