Both wheat and barley straw can be bailed. Barley straw is an important output of the crop and is widely used by livestock farmers. Large quantities work their way westwards at harvest time as they move from the main arable to livestock areas. Barley straw is tougher and less brittle than wheat straw and therefore lends itself for use in bedding livestock. Barley straw is also quite palatable and provides a reasonable fodder for overwintering stock.
