This fungus has jelly-like flesh, and its spores fall from little spore-holders, placing it in the Basidiomycetes. It is frequently used in egg rolls and other Chinese dishes in stuffings and fillings, as the dried pieces are rather tasteless. It grows on tree bark and decaying logs. Its appearance is, typically ear-shaped ( 2-15cm) tan to brown with irregular brown flesh which is thin, gelatinous-rubbery.
