A cottony, spiny plant with prickly leaves and a few clustered flowerheads with pink-purple florets. It is found on wasteground, roadsides, grasslands and open woodlands. This picture shows the last of the flowers as the plant begins to seed and was taken near Cardington Bedfordshire, late August 2005.
