Common species of the parsley family, Hogweed is a stout upright plant (60-180cm) with a ridged stem and deeply lobed crinkled leaves and many small clustered flat white flowers. It gained its name because in the past it was gathered for pig fodder. It contains a substance that can cause blistering. This plant was pictured in late August 2005 near Old Warden Village, Bedfordshire.
