This plant grows in similar habitats (disturbed ground and agricultural land) as the nettle and its leaves have often been used by walkers to cure nettle stings. It was also used to dress burns and scalds in former times. It has deep roots and can be difficult to remove from gardens and fields. It has long narrow leaves curled up at the edges. The inner sepals are without teeth and there is usually a wart on all three sepals. Pictured near Stagsden, Bedfordshire - early September 2005.
