A common plant of cultivated ground the sun spurge flowers from April to October. It disperses its seeds from capsules which, when ripe, crack open and fire out the seeds making an audible sound. The seeds have an appendage covered in oil that ants like and they carry off the seeds dispersing them even further. Pictured at Stagsden, Bedfordshire -late September 2005.
