A common plant of waste and cultivated land. This plant was supposed to have been given to the Greek Hero Theseus before he defeated the Minotaur. For may years the leaves were boiled and eaten or served raw in salads. The leaves are supposed to revive or give strength. It flowers June to August, however this plant was still flowering in mid October in the shelted cutting at the old railway site near Stevington, Bedfordshire.
