The 17th century saw Civil war, after a long dispute between King Charles 1 and Parliament. During the English Civil War the Parliamentarians (Roundheads) and Royalists (Cavaliers) fought many fierce battles. The first period of the war lasted from 1642 to 1646. In 1648 fighting once more broke out. This picture shows a display of boots and hats from the civil war period in the 17th century, housed at the Cromwell Museum, Huntingdon
