Plant with sword-shaped evergreen leaves. Forms with dull purple flowers from May to July. Fruits (pictured) are club shaped capsules that split into 3 segments when ripe, exposing orange-red seeds. It is common in southern England mainly on calcareous soils. Pictured mid December 2005, Maulden, Bedfordshire.
