One story tells how the tradition of the Christmas tree started in Germany, back in the 7th century when a traveling monk came upon a pagan festival dedicated to the worship of trees. He felled the tree that was being worshipped and the following morning a fir tree had sprung from the roots. The tree became known as God's Tree.
