Another ancient momument damaged by cannon fire was the Augustinian priory of St. Botolph , which was the first Augustinian priory built in Britain. It was founded between 1093 and 1100. The dissolution of the monasteries under King Henry VIII in the 16th century, led to our St Botolph's Priory falling into decline - but it was the cannons of the civil war that reduced it ruin.
