A very common tree that can reach a height of 30-32 meters. In late Autumn /winter it can be easily distinguished by its black buds in winter and in summer by its distinctive pinnate leaves. The flowers appear in April before the leaves and are wind pollinated. It produces both male, female and bisexual flowers. Its fruits (shown) can be found in late summer / autumn.
