The flowers of the spurges are unusual as they lack petals and sepals. Each green cup-like structure contains a female flower and several male flowers. It is full of a caustic juice. The stem is hairy with kidney shaped bracts. It produces a rough, round seed capsule. It flowers April to May. Picture taken 15th April 2006 at woods near Old Warden, Bedfordshire.
