The field pansy has creamy flowers. It is a small plant and the sepals are longer than the petals. The plant's name derives from the French for 'thought' and it was traditionally the plant of remembrance and love. It used to be known as 'Heartsease', as in Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', where it is used to make Titania fall in love. It grows mainly on agricultural ground and flowers from April - July. This picture was taken in the fields at Odell, Bedfordshire - 2nd April 2006.
