An edible plant, Alexanders was also used to cure stomach cramps and snake-bite. Its black seeds were once sold under the name of Macedonian parsley. It is a biennial plant and its greenish flowers appear from April-July and are curved inwards. It can be found in hedgebanks and near cultivated ground. It has hairless stems and dark shiny green leaves, which are toothed and diamond shaped. The flowers produce sharply ridged fruits. Picture taken Bedford 7th April 2006.
