The leaves of this plant were once widely used for covering wounds. It can also be eaten in salads and its rich in vitamin C but has a slightly bitter taste. It has hairless shiny green leaves the lower ones are deeply lobed and the upper leaves clasp the stem. It has bright yellow flowers, which appear between May and August. The flower heads at first very dense (as pictured here) but lengthen as the fruits develop. It is a plant of waysides, hedgerows, streams and ditches.
