The Scurvygrass is just starting to flower. There were no leaves to be seen and the flowers just developing, so I was not sure if it was Common Scurvygrass (Cochlearia officinalis)or English Scurvygrass (Cochlearia angelica). Scurvygrass got its name because it was once used to cure an illness known as Scurvy. It has very high levels of vitamin C. The leaves were also made into a beer called Scurvygrass ale. It has small white or lilac flowers with four petals. Seed pods are globe shaped. It flowers May to August. Picture taken 3rd May 2006 at Maulden, Bedfordshire.
