A deciduous shrub with pale brown downy twigs. The leaves are in opposite pairs and are oval, wrinkled and very finely toothed. The underside of the leaves are grey and downy. It produces many small white flowers. The fruits are green at first then red and finally black. It flowers May to June and the poisonous fruits ripen July to October. Picture taken 6th May 2006 at Felmersham, Bedfordshire.
