The leaves are developing on the tree. In late Autumn /winter, Ash can be easily distinguished by its black buds and in summer by its distinctive pinnate leaves. The black buds turn brown and flowers appear, usually in April, before the leaves and are wind pollinated. It produces both male flowers female (pictured), and bisexual flowers. Its fruits mature in late summer / autumn. It is a very common tree that can reach a height of 30-32 meters. Picture taken 5th May 2006 at Old Warden, Bedfordshire
