A very hairy upright plant with heartshaped leaves borne in opposite pairs. The flowers have a concave upper lip and a three lobed white marked lower lip. The sepals form a tube with five long pointed teeth. The leaves just below the flower whorls are shorter and narrow than the other stem leaves. The plant was once used to steam bleeding and cure wounds - a poultice was made from the leaves and other green parts of the plant. The plant contains and oil that has antiseptic like qualities. The plant usually flowers July to August. Picture taken June 10th 2006 at Old Warden, Bedfordshire.
