This is an attractive plant with purple flowers. It is widespread in hedgerows. It is often confused with red dead Nettle but has a distinctive funnel shape to the fused sepals. It was used to cure bites from mad dogs and as a remedy for the settling of nausea and vomiting. The plant's offensive smell protects it from being eaten by cattle. It flowers from June to October. Picture taken 16th June 2006 near Bedford.
