This flower sheds its petals after a single day but may produce over 400 flowers in succession over the summer. It usually flowers from May to October This is probably the species of poppy that grew on the fields of Flanders after the battles in WWI. Poppy seeds can lie dormant and grow rapidly on disturbed soil. Picture taken near Bedford on 16th July 2006.
