Wild strawberry is found in woods, scrub and grassland throughout Britain. Flowers have sepals and petals in whorls of four or five. The white petals are longer than the green sepals. Leaves have long stalks and three leaflets. The leaves are bright green on top and pale green below. Long runners root at intervals to produce new plants. The fruit is red when ripe. The plant flowers April to July. Picture taken at Old Warden Railway cutting, Bedfordshire - June 10th 2006.
