A plant with yellow flowers (but with fewer black dots or glands that Perforate St John's Wort) and stemless leaves (30-70cm tall) it grows on damp marshy places and beside water. It flowers June to September. The plant was once thought to drive away devils and evil spirits and in Medieval times was hung in windows to prevent Satan entering the house. This plant was also thought to have the power to raise or exorcise spirits and also to prevent against ill fortune. Picture taken June 24th 2006 at Felmersham, Bedfordshire
