These trees native to North America are a type of Hawthorn but without the distinctive hawthorn type leaves. They also have very long thorns and a wide canopy for a small tree. The tree bears white flowers in spring and the red fruits stay on the tree well into winter. The leaves on some varieites turn red in winter. Picture taken 9th June 2006 at Elstow, Bedfordshire.
