A butterfly that can be found across much or Europe and Asia. The upperside of the male is brilliant sky blue. The female chocolate brown with some blue near the base, with orange spots with blue scales around the edge of the hindwing. Both have checkered fringes. Winter is passed as a caterpillar. The insect feeds on the Horseshoe vetch, where they lay their eggs.It can be seen from May - September. Picture taken 29th July 2006 at Stevington, Bedfordshire.
