This is an artists illustration of a drove road. The road was banked and lined by hedges of Hawthorn, Blackthorn and Dog Rose. The road allowed sheep and cattle to be driven down to the water meadows without disturbing neighbouring livestock or people. The existence of sub-droves and paddocks suggests that regular livestock markets were held to exchange livestock. Picture taken on 6th August 2006 at Flag Fen, Cambridgeshire.
