For the first time in England, the site of an entire early Anglo-Saxon village was fully excavated between 1965 and 1972. Outline traces of the houses were found, along with many objects belonging to the original inhabitants. In 1974, it was decided to reconstruct on the original site some of the Saxon buildings to test ideas about how they lived.
