West Stow was an example of an early Anglo-Saxon village. This picture gives an impression of West Stow or Stowa (meaning place) may have been like. From around 450AD, it was home to three or four Anglo-Saxon families, their slaves and animals. Each of the families had a hall for meetings and houses used as workshops or living areas around it. When the houses got too bad to be repaired they were simple left and a new one built nearby. Picture taken at West Stow Anglo-Saxon site and museum August 2006.
