This purse top, was found in the grave of a rich Anglo-Saxon warrior at Sutton Hoo. Some people think the grave may have been King Raedwald's, who died around 625. The purse would have hung from a belt at the waist. In the purse were 37 coins together with 3 blanks and 2 small ingots. Each coin came from a different Frankish mint dated to between 613-629. The shoulder clasp would have been fastened to heavy leather or thick fabric.
