A mint-scented downy herb that grows by fresh water, fens and ditches. It has mauve flowers with the stamen heads protruding. It flowers from July to October. Mint has been used in cooking throughout recorded history. It is the commonest mint and has many hybrids including Peppermint. Picture taken 28th August at Felmersham, Bedfordshire.
