A complex part of the building the Byward tower and Postern date from the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. The turret contains ealry gun-embrasures for defence and was originally reached via a drawbridge over a moat. The castle has been constantly improved and extended by the addition of other smaller towers, extra buildings, walls and walkways, gradually evolving into the building seen today. Picture taken 31st August 2006.
