The Water Mint is just starting to develop flowers. A mint-scented downy herb that grows by fresh water, fens and ditches. It has mauve flowers with the stamen heads protruding. It to October. Mint has been used in cooking throughout recorded history. It is the commonest mint and has many hybrids including Peppermint. Picture taken 22nd July 2006 at Felmersham, Bedfordshire.
