The Perennial Sow-thistle has bright yellow florets similar to the dandelion but these are held on branched stalks rather than singularly one per stem. The dark green leaves are also edged with fine spines. The involucres (or bracts) below the florets are covered in sticky gland-tipped hairs. Sow-thistles have been used in salads and to cure many illnesses. The plant is common on arable land, waysides, in hedgerows and fens. Picture taken on the 28th July 2006 at Felmersham, Bedfordshire.
