White Campion (Silene alba)

The last of the white campion is still flowering. This is a hairy plant with deeply lobed white petals. It grows to between 30 and 100 cm tall. The plants are dioecious, that is there are separate male and female plants. The male plants are with 10 stamens and the female with 5 styles. It grows in hedgerows, woods and in waste and arable land. The plants flower May to October. Picture taken September 19th at Felmersham, Bedfordshire.
