This plant is very common in hedgerows throughout England and Wales. It is the ancestor of the modern garden rose. It was a valuable medicinal plant and from the hips (pictured) Rosehip syrup which is rich in vitamin C is produced. It flowers June - July with the hips forming August - September. Picture taken October 22nd Old Warden, Bedfordshire.
