This fungus can reach a large size. The cap has a dark umbo with recurved brown scales on a whitish background. The gills are free and white and the stout stem a white to dull brown with a bulbous base. It does not have the snakeskin markins of the Parasol fungi. If can be found in gardens, roadsides and mixed woods. Picture taken at Potton Woods, Bedfordshire October 27th 2006.
