Situated in the City of Westminster, South Kensington opposite Kensington Gardens, The Royal Albert Hall is an arts venue dedicated to Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert. Along with the Albert memorial opposite, the Hall is the national memorial to the Prince Consort. The hall was opened by Queen Victoria on March 29, 1871. It has since hosted events from the Proms, rock concerts, conferences, ballroom dancing, poetry recitals, education, ballet, opera and sports events. It has the largest pipe organ in the UK. It was built to accommodate 8,000, even with current safety regulations, it can still seat over 5,500 today. Picture taken 11th January 2006.
