The Burlington Arcade is a covered shopping arcade linking Bond Street, Piccadilly to Burlington Gardens. The Arcade opened in 1819 an early example of a covereed arcade and forerunner of the mid-19th century European shopping galleries and the modern shopping centre. The single straight walkway was small two storey units. It was built was built to sell jewellery and fancy/fashoinable items. The Piccadilly façade was added in the early 20th century. It has always been an upmarket retail location and is patrolled by Arcade Beadles in traditional uniforms including top hats and tailcoats. Picture taken 16th December 2006.
