The Warsaw Ghetto was set up by the German Governor-General Hans Frank on October 16, 1940. At this time, the population of the Ghetto was around 400,000 people. Over the next two years tens of thousands of people arrived to become residents of the ghetto. however the rapid spread of disease such as typhus meant that the population remained at about the same level.
