In August 1740 Eleanor Noon and her two children Jane and Matthew were apprehended as rogues and vagabonds in the city of Norwich. After being questioned she and her children were sent to the House of Correction in Norwich and ordered to be removed from there to the House of Correction in Deal in Kent. According to Eleanor she had been married to her Irish husband Francis Noon or Moon or Moore for 14 years. As he had worked for 3 years in Deal, that was seen to be her last place of legal settlement. Last Saturday he left her in the marketplace in Norwich and she had not seen him since. Eleanor could not sign her name.
