John Mattocks, son of John and Ann, was born in Suffolk in 1780. His father kept the White Hart Inn at Stradbroke. He first worked as a huntsman for Thomas Havers of Thelveton Hall, near Diss. He came to Wortham in his middle age with his second wife Lydia or 'Bet' and worked as a horseman, horsebreaker and servant. He died aged 80 in January 1860 and was buried in Wortham, Suffolk.
